THE PROGRAM

Chef Tech Academy (CTA) is a professional and fun introduction to the culinary arts.

The schedule. CTA is a cumulative weekly camp scheduled for each week between May 31st and July 29th, 2016. In response to the wide age range of interested campers, CTA will offer two camps, a Residence Camp for chef campers ages 14-18 and a Day Camp for chef campers up to age 14.

The curriculum. The curriculum and intensity for each group will be age appropriate.  Campers may attend from one week to all five weeks of camp. Each week will include some general information, basic skills, and more detailed training on specific topics. In this way our returning Chef Campers will learn more advanced and challenging skills as they attend additional weeks.

Ideally, a Chef Camper would attend several (or all) weeks for the greatest transfer of skills and knowledge.

  •  – Learn important information about food safety, kitchen skills, nutrition, and food science.
  •  – Enjoy one-on-one opportunities to work with a trained and certified chef and to participate in team competitions.
  •  – Prepare daily dishes ranging from salads to entrees and desserts.
  •  – Learn about food allergies, organic vs. processed foods, and gluten free foods — to make good food choices.
  • – Learn about sustainable farming, community gardens, and organic farming trends.
  • – Build and maintain an on-site herb garden.

Chef Tech Residence Campers will visit all areas of Auburn University including the university working sustainable farm, the Horticural and Animal Husbandry Departments, and the Food Truck food distribution function.

Math and science.
Daily learning will include a math, science, and technology curriculum that identifies the importance of these core learning skills and their direct relationship to food and nutrition as well as practical applications in the kitchen. This activity will be provided by Auburn University tutors.

Exercise.
Chef Tech Campers will participate in a daily physical activity to promote a clear understanding of physical and nutritional health, again, supported by Auburn University staff.
Each week at Chef Tech Academy will include the basics, so your Camper can attend any week; however, each week will provide more detailed information on different topics so attending multiple weeks will provide a great base for further culinary learning.

Most of all, at Chef Tech Academy, we make all things FOOD, FUN!
