Chef Sidney Corum, Founder and CIO
Chef Corum has more than 25 years experience in the food and service industry, having managed provision accounts for some of Los Angeles’ more popular restaurants including Jerry’s Deli and Langers. He has also worked as an account executive, servicing major hotels such as Caesars Palace, the Las Vegas Hilton and the Sands Hotel. His passion for fine food and desire to provide exemplary service have driven him to establish many food businesses over the years. His new passion is training a new generation of chefs to battle the current obesity and poor nutrition plague of our country, while improving the math and science deficit in our youth.
In 2002, Chef Corum started Chef Ago Go, a catering business which became very successful due to his ability to understand his clients’ wants and needs. Under the leadership of Chef Corum, Chef Ago Go was the winner of the 2004 Exemplary Service Award from the inaugural class of the Goizueta Business School at Emory University. “Our commitment to providing quality food and services made it possible for Chef Ago Go to be the first outside contractor to ever win this prestigious award.”
Chef Corum understands the importance of keeping clients completely satisfied and makes it his goal to achieve this every single day. He has published recipes in a variety of publications. In 2005, The Goizueta Business School’s Inside Goizueta Magazine winter publication included an article about the exemplary services of Chef Ago Go. Circulation of the publication is international and includes all alumni. Sidney is also very involved in the community and helps several organizations through his philanthropy.
In 2004, at the suggestion of a former Chi Phi fraternity brother and Emory MBA/MD graduate student, Greek Life Services began. Chef Corum saw a need for specialized services for fraternities and sororities at Emory University and began meal services in seven fraternity houses on campus. A trained in-house chef prepares lunch and dinner Monday through Thursday, lunch only on Friday with brunch every Saturday. Breakfast is also served Monday through Friday and consists of fresh fruits, cold cereals, muffins and juices. Weekly menus include top quality, healthy food choices designed specifically to your liking. Greek Life Services has just expanded to the University of Georgia and is talking to other univeristy Greek Life systems.
Chef Corum has become increasingly concerned about the obesity and diabetes epidemics in this country, and the lack of math and science proficiency of our students. He feels a responsibility to help train the next generation of chefs. Thus, Chef Tech Academy was born.
After several years of industry experience and the hiring and training of employees from across the country Chef Corum began to question and evaluate what were the key learning behaviors missing from those employees in their development that interfered with their ability to be successful at the next level. He concluded that in part a concentrated emphasis in early development was missing in the areas of Math, Science, Technology and Communication Skills. With the popularity of the Cooking Channel, Top Chef and other similar shows becoming a chef has became more popular. After careful consideration Chef Tech Academy was formed in 2010 to bridge the learning gap for children ages 11-17 who had an interest in cooking and becoming a chef. Parental pressure has caused the addition of a program for 5-10 year olds in the 2012 session. Chef Tech Academy was designed to spark our children’s understanding of how much of a role math, science, technology and communication skills play in their development as chefs and leaders in our communities.
A tasty twist on summer fun!
